Break Information

 

 The North Orange County Community College District follows Federal/state law for our hourlies as it applies to breaks/meal periods.

  • Hourly employees get a 15-minute paid break for each 4 consecutive hours of work, generally to be taken at the midpoint of the shift.
  • Hourlies who work 6 or more consecutive hours get a 30-minute unpaid lunch break, not supposed to be taken at the end of the shift.
  • Hourlies who work 8 or more hours get two 15-minute paid breaks and a 30-minute unpaid lunch break.

 

For students who intend to enroll in at least 6 units and maintain meeting the eligible criteria for the Federal Work-study Program, they maybe able to work during a portion of the summer months. Students will be required to complete a Letter of Intent to Enroll in at least 6 units in the Fall semester before the end of the Spring semester. This will allow the student to continue working till June 15th and start again possibly in early August. This will depend on the student meeting all necessary criteria for Work-study and the depeartments' needs.
